Preparing for a great live performance

Knowing the proper behavior on stage is critical to giving your best live performance. With that in mind, try to follow these tips:
Rehearsals
Make sure you’ve rehearsed with the band. You should have at least one dress rehearsal and several more practice rehearsals before a live performance. When you do your final dress rehearsal, sing from memory.
Choosing your outfit
The outfit you choose to wear for the live performance can make or break the show. When you choose an outfit, make sure that you wear it during rehearsals so that you get used to it. Make sure that you can move and breathe in the outfit you have chosen to wear.
Walking out onto the stage
After you know where to stand it’s a good idea to practice walking into place. While one would think walking across a stage would be easy, it’s actually fairly difficult. When you walk across the stage, you want to stop in place, but at the same time you need to have good posture when you do so. Do your best to keep your posture as you walk to your chosen position.
Make sure the speaker faces away
The experience of singing with a band will be a lot of things, but initially it will be confusing. The speakers will probably be turned away, in which case you will have trouble hearing yourself. Ask if it’s possible to have a speaker turned toward you. The problem is that bands play loudly, and a speaker can be distracting if you’re not used to it. If a specific instrument plays the melody line, you may have to get used to picking out that sound from the other instruments.
Smile to your audience
Make sure you smile as you go on stage. A smile will make you appear to be confident, which will boost your performance. Your smile needs to look genuine even if you’re nervous and don’t want to be on the stage.
Acknowledgment of the audience
When singing in a concert, knowing whether to acknowledge your audience or stick to your own little world can be tricky. Singers won’t always sing in a small place. The best thing you can do is watch the professionals and see how they do it.
Distractions will occur
Unlike in rehearsal, a live performance can have plenty of distractions. People might enter late, cough, get up and leave, or any number of other things. People in the audience often don’t consider how this distracts the performer. So because you will naturally be distracted at a performance, you will need to stage a few distractions at home to get you ready for the big time. The best way to ignore distractions is to have friends distract you and see how lo you can ignore it.
What to do with your hands
If you’re not sure what to do with your hands during your live singing performance, putting your hands down at your sides is safest. Though your sides might not seem like a great place, it is at least a safe place. You can gesture if you want, just make sure your gesture is complete. If you need another option, then you can clasp your hands to the front of you.
Great so now you’ve got a good idea of how to behave on the big night. Of course before you present yourself to the crowds, you’ll need to do some work on your singing voice. I highly recommend the Singing Success vocal training program.
