The Christmas holidays can be extremely good fun and are to be looked forward to, but they can be very expensive for some people. Given the fact that the UK is just trying to come out of a recession, lots of people will be trying to save money this Christmas.
With that in mind, here are a few unusual Christmas gifts that you can make, hopefully showing your loved relative just how much they mean to you. Often people are extremely touched by a gift that you’ve put the time and effort into, particularly older generations. So if you’re finding it difficult to afford all the gifts you need to buy, perhaps these ideas will give you some inspiration:
‘Memory jars’ are a wonderful idea for a gift that’s personalised and should go down especially well with an older close friend or relative. Talk to other family members and ask for picture or memories of the person you’re making the gift for. Then take lots of bits of card and place one picture and/or memory on each. Fold the cards in half and place them inside a suitable container, such as a box or jar (old sweet jars work well, particularly if you take the time to decorate them). Giving this to someone you love is a great gift, as it allows them to see a memory of them from someone who loves them whenever they like. It’s a great gift that costs nothing but time and effort and should be extremely well received.
A gift that’s more suitable for a younger person would be a safe-style, hollow book. Easy to make and particucularly good for students, teenagers and slightly older children. Buy or find an old, dusty book, glue together the inner pages and then hollow them out with a knife. This will mean they’ll have secret hiding place for their money, diary or anything else they’re looking to keep secret. Very simple, extremely easy to do and a fantastic way of saving on Christmas gifts.
Recipe booklets also make great Christmas stocking fillers. Put together a booklet containing all your favourite recipes and then personalise it as much as possible. Hand-write the recipes, or include little notes to the recipient or even small samples of chosen recipes. A wonderful little present that any grandmother would love.

Christmas, that magical time of year when people come together, spend time with friends and family around the meal table, exchange gifts, indulge in devilish delights and, consequently, pack on a considerable amount of pounds!
Christmas day is probably the only day of the year where we can let go and have no worries, apart from the one whos cooking.
The problem is, Christmas is so lucrative for businesses that many attempt to capitalize on consumers’ ‘feel good factor’ for as long as is humanly possible.
Ever got the feeling that some retail outlets bring out the christmas stock earlier every year. No sooner has the first leaf fallen from the trees than we are bombarded from all angles with gift ideas, stocking fillers, recipes and invites to Christmas parties.
So when are we expecting christmas to start this year?? We are already well into summer so don’t be alarmed if you start to see crackers and decorations starting to litter department stores in the coming weeks.
It’s time to fight back. The premature arrival of christmas then destroys the general build up.. When the long awaited day comes it seems a huge relief to have it over with.. By organising your time over the festive period will take a small amount of stress off your shoulders.. Make the 25th of December a day full of partying, over-indulgence and joy, and then stop (at least until New Year!). So you’ve worked hard all year and what better way to relax and let your hair down by having a memorable Corporate Christmas party.
As we all know, alot of the food found at parties and corporate events tends to lack inspiration and variety, this is not what you will receive should you hire a catering service.. Corporate catering offers a rewarding service, as well as giving your guests what that deserve such a good quality food and a well stocked bar which of course is important.! So make your christmas party a memorable one this year!.

I’m a huge fan of the chocolate and champagne thing so a gift like i’m leaving in the source section would be great for me.
Everyone’s different and I obviously don’t know your husband so may not be for him, but this is something that I’d love.

You could possibly be dreaming of a white Christmas, but you often want a bright array of gorgeous colors, a green Christmas tree, colored lights and a lovely red poinsettia to go along with it. Poinsettias have long been the conventional Xmas flower gift of option and are steeped in tradition together with misconceptions.
For instance, many persons mistakenly think that the lovely huge red parts on the poinsettia, known as bracts, are the flower of the plant. In fact, these are definitely more like huge red leaves and the actual “flowers” on the plant are the tiny little yellow nubs inside the center from the poinsettia. Of course, this lack of scientific knowledge has no bearing on a person’s capability to enjoy the poinsettia, but another misconception may well unnecessarily maintain persons from enjoying them-please note that poinsettias aren’t poisonous.
As a native of south Florida, I grew up surrounded by poinsettias that GREW IN THE GROUND!!
I have two extremely distinct memories of poinsettias from my childhood, other than just taking them for granted. Whilst we had been living in West Palm Beach, Florida, we had a hedge, separating our residence from the 1 next door, of tall white hibiscus having a thick row of what we called “fireball” poinsettias in front. Strangers, probably tourists, would stop in front from the house and question us about the poinsettias. They had by no means seen anything like it!
My second memory of poinsettias was helping my mother make fresh-cut poinsettia arrangements for our home, church and friends. She would send me out early within the morning to cut the poinsettias (from the hedge), burn the cut stems having a match to seal them off and stop the flow from the “milk”, then submerge them in drinking water for several hours. We had a huge wash tub that we would fill with drinking water and then weight the poinsettias down inside the h2o which includes a brick or rock. The poinsettias supposedly soaked up the drinking water by means of their leaves which kept them fresh indefinitely.
As an adult, I had the privilege of studying Spanish in a language school in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I learned there that the “poinsettia” was not a “poinsettia” at all but a Nochebuena-or Xmas Eve flower. That name looks so a great deal far more appropriate to me since the flower blooms through the Xmas season and after. After inquiring, it seems that the Nochebuena is native to Cuernavaca and was cultivated by the Aztecs. Since the Aztecs preceded the Spanish in Mexico, their name for the flower-cuetlaxochitl-should probably be considered to be its “official” name. I must admit that for me, at least, it is much simpler to say Nochebuena than Cuetlaxochitl.
